2026 Accelerated Approval of Novel Food Ingredients: Qualification & Traceability Management for Chemical Raw Material Exporters
2026.09.30

Recently, China’s National Health Commission has accelerated acceptance and evaluation procedures for novel food ingredients. Multiple plant extracts and active peptide nutritional raw materials have entered public comment periods, unlocking new market opportunities for exports of food additives and nutraceutical raw materials. Meanwhile, customs authorities worldwide keep tightening supervision on imported raw materials, covering traceability records, qualification documents and product labeling. It raises higher requirements on full-chain management for chemical foreign trade enterprises supplying both food nutritional raw materials and hazardous chemicals.

For food-grade raw materials, exporters must guarantee consistency among product specifications, test certificates and production filing documents. Overseas buyers increasingly require complete batch traceability covering raw material procurement, production processing, finished product inspection and warehouse delivery, to facilitate customs inspection. For popular nutritional raw materials such as collagen peptides, grain protein peptides and mineral salts, safety test data including microbiology and heavy metal indexes have become mandatory standards for supplier audits.

For hazardous chemical business, enterprises must separate management systems for ordinary food raw materials and hazardous chemicals in warehousing, documentation and customs declaration. Mixed storage is prohibited when handling both categories in one facility. Independent inventory records are required to prevent cross-contamination. Before export customs declaration, enterprises should double-check hazard classification identification, MSDS and packaging inspection certificates, to avoid cargo detention caused by inconsistent document information.

In today’s foreign trade landscape, competition based merely on pricing is declining. Overseas buyers prefer suppliers with complete certifications, stable QC systems and full batch traceability records. As fine chemical raw material suppliers, enterprises should track industry policies regularly, pre-review product qualifications in advance, and standardize two separate supply chain workflows for food raw materials and hazardous chemicals. This helps mitigate cross-border compliance risks and guarantee stable delivery for global customers.
